Economics at Melbourne

Economics has been taught at The University of Melbourne since 1885. Our core teaching and research areas include economics, econometrics and actuarial studies.

We have built an enviable reputation for research excellence, upholding our position as the premier research department in Australia. Our inspiring teachers are regularly called upon to provide expert opinions to business and government in Australia and around the world.

From Nilss Olekalns, Head of Department:

"Our central mission is to provide research, teaching and knowledge transfer of the highest international standard. We are proud of our tradition of high-quality teaching and research, and of the calibre of both our students and academic staff."
