Asian Economics Centre

Department of Economics Students

The Asian Economics Centre is located in the Department of Economics at the University of Melbourne. The Centre brings together academic staff with research interests in economic issues facing the countries of the Asia-Pacific region and the broader issues of global economic development. Its activities include research, conferences, seminars and teaching related to Asia and the Pacific. The Centre also contributes strongly to the University's goal of "knowledge transfer" with members being requested to provide advice to, and to undertake research consultancies for, international organizations.

The research interests of the academics associated with the Centre, as well as the thesis topics of PhD students, cover a variety of fields. These include development economics, agricultural economics, international trade policy, international economics, economic geography, trade and development, political economy, experimental economics, health economics and climate change.

All members have an interest in Asian economies but particularly those of China, India and Indonesia.
