Academics edit and referee articles for professional journals, and are engaged as consultants to various government departments and agencies, to international agencies and businesses.

Department members are often invited to present their views in the media.

The Department has direct links with secondary schools and twice each year publishes its journal Econochat and presents lectures on economics topics for VCE students.

Academics frequently present talks and lectures for outside organisations, and serve as members of external government committees.
