Bill Griffiths was awarded a Phd from the
University of Illinois in 1971. After spending a year in the Department
of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota,
he joined the University of New England (UNE) in Armidale as a Lecturer
in Economic Statistics. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1979,
Associate Professor in 1983, and was appointed Professor of Econometrics
at UNE in 1986. During 1984-88, 1989-93 and 1997-98, he was Head
of UNE's Department of Econometrics. He was appointed Professor
of Econometrics at the University of Melbourne in 2001.
Bill has held visiting appointments at the Universities of Georgia (at Athens),
Illinois (at Champaign), and California (at Berkeley). He was elected Fellow
of the Academy of Social Sciences in 1995.
