Good students who have completed their degrees at tertiary institutions other
than the University of Melbourne are eligible to apply for a place in the
University of Melbourne's Honours Year in Economics. Successful applicants
will be able to take out a BCom (Honours) degree from Australia's most highly
regarded honours programme.
To be eligible for entry, applicants must:
- have completed a major sequence in Economics/ Econometrics in their
(pass) degree and have taken at least half of their third year subjects in
Economics/Econometrics;
- have included in their course a third year subject in Microeconomic Theory
or equivalent;
- have achieved an average of at least 70% in their 'best four' third year
Economics/Econometrics subjects;
- have fulfilled the requirements to take out the pass degree at their own
institution; and
- have no fails in their degree.
Students who do not meet all of these requirements should not be discouraged
from applying. Their applications will be considered in the light of their whole
academic record.
Application forms (and booklets giving more information on the Honours Year
in Economics) may be obtained from 'The General Manager, Faculty of
Economics and Commerce, The University of Melbourne, Victoria,
3010, Australia'. When submitting their application forms, applicants will be expected to
provide copies of academic transcripts which show that they have met the
criteria for entry as set out above.
Application forms must normally be lodged no later than 30th November.
Selection will take place in mid-December and applicants are normally notified
of the outcome at the end of December or early January. (Late applications
may be considered.)
