Downing Lectures
Richard Downing was the Ritchie Chair Professor of Research in Economics at the University of Melbourne from 1954 until 1975.
He made a significant contribution to economic research and guided and mentored the research interests of other staff and his students. For 20 years he edited the Economics Record and played a prominent part in the founding of the Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research.
During this time Richard Downing also served as assistant Vice Chancellor and as Chairman of Ormond College Council.
