Who we are
The Department of Economics is one of four departments within the Faculty of Economics and Commerce.. We teach in the areas of economics, econometrics and actuarial studies.
We have 46 full-time academic staff, 14 administrative staff and a large number of sessional teaching staff; and we have received international rewards for our innovative and engaging approach to teaching and learning.
We have three clear aims:
- To be the leading provider of undergraduate and graduate education in the Asia-Pacific region
- To be regarded as one of the top 50 Economics Departments internationally
- To be recognised as the leading Department in Australia for contributions to knowledge on the operation of the Australian economy and economic policy.
At the undergraduate level, the Department teaches into the Bachelor of Commerce. At the postgraduate level, economics programs are offered through the Melbourne Graduate School of Management.
